TWIN CITIES DOULAS

Babies are like the sun, they bring light & joy into our lives

Scroll through to learn about all of our doulas that serve clients in the Twin Cities/Metro area.

Complete our request form.

If you have a request for a specific doula or suggestions of ones you feel may be a good fit, we are happy to check with their availability for your birthing time. However, as a small nonprofit, we do not have the capacity for clients to interview several doulas, then select one from that process. Your placement will be determined by your response to the Doula Confirmation Form and doula availability around your estimated due date (EDD).

While we will do everything possible to place you with a doula, making a request is not a guarantee that we will have a doula available at your birthing time!

Amy

My goal is to ease anxiety, address concerns, seek answers, then advocate for your decisions at every stage of labor and delivery.

I became fascinated with birthwork as a teenager while babysitting a midwife’s two children. Countless hours spent poring over her reference books ignited a dream of becoming a midwife. However, life took me on a different path.

After three decades in the nonprofit sector and raising my own family, I was presented with an unexpected opportunity to pursue my passion. As a certified doula, I am honored to help mothers embrace their strength and become empowered throughout their pregnancy and birthing journey.

I particularly enjoy working with first-time families, single mothers, and those who have experienced past trauma. My goal is to ease anxiety, address concerns, seek answers, then advocate for your decisions at every stage of labor and delivery.

Your birthing experience not only brings a baby into the world; it’s a profound opportunity to redefine yourself and your family. I would be honored to provide a calm, peaceful presence and steady support to you so that you can have the best birth experience possible. Regardless of the doula you choose, my deepest wish for you is to harness your birthing experience to better know yourself, discover your power, observe your beauty, and heal yourself.

Ariel

My goal is to support your family the way you want to be supported with whatever your specific circumstances may be.

Hello! My name is Ariel. I am a doula with special interests in supporting single parents, those considered high risk and families pregnant after loss. I support in all birth settings - home, birth center, and hospital - as well as all types of birth scenarios. My goal is to support your family the way you want to be supported with whatever your specific circumstances may be.

I witnessed my first birth at 11 years old and that is what initially sparked my interest to become a doula! I have been supporting families professionally since 2015 but it was after my son was stillborn in 2018 that my passion for maternal care expanded. I now support families from pre-conception through the first year postpartum.

Outside of birthwork, I have a background in Early Childhood Education and Community Organizing. I also support families as a Lactation Counselor and Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST). I am Mexican-Lakota and I live in the Twin Cities with my husband and two young daughters.

It takes a village and everyone deserves one - whether you choose me to be part of yours or not, I am so happy you’re making the decision to have a doula :)

Ashley

EVERYONE deserves to be educated, supported, and encouraged during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

What if I told you that there was someone who would support your birth choices, provide you evidence-based information, and teach you how to advocate for yourself and your baby all while comforting you physically, emotionally, mentally, and educationally? Hi, I'm Ashley and I'm that someone.

Birth rights are human rights and incredible things happen when a birthing person is treated with the care and compassion they deserve.

EVERYONE deserves to be educated, supported, and encouraged during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

It's more evident than ever that the world is full of barriers. One way I can do my part is to level the playing field and make birth education and support accessible, regardless of social stature, race, sexual preference/identity, or religion.

I am a Certified Birth Doula and a Postpartum Doula and a Lamaze-Certified Childbirth Educator. Additionally, I have the distinct privilege in working as the Doula Coordinator at Everyday Miracles!

Outside of birth work, I am a professional classical singer. I have had the unique opportunity to share my music all around the world, including Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Additionally, I sing all around the Twin Cities with several professional choral groups, as well as at The Basilica, St. Olaf, and Holy Cross. I am born and bred in Minneapolis. I live with my husband and our two beautiful babies. We are a goofy, multicultural, and close-knit family that get strange stares when people can't figure out why we don't all look alike. Sometimes, challenging the system is as easy as walking out the door!

We love to travel, dance, spend time at the lake, and try new food. Most importantly, we love to laugh!

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me and remember, you are capable of great things!

Brianna

My ultimate goal is to support your choice, answer questions and provide resources throughout your pregnancy/birth journey!

My name is Brianna, I am a COPE trained birth Doula located in Minneapolis MN. I am a boymom to three wonderful boys. Being a Mother is my weakness. Next, is my love for educating and supporting women through their journey of birth before, during and after.

After going through the tragedy of the still birth of my daughter and learning about the advocacy that lacks in the black community for women, who are four times more likely to die during pregnancy and child birth, Led me to where I am today! Having the passion to help other women, as they create and experience their own birth story.

My ultimate goal is to support your choice, answer questions and provide resources throughout your pregnancy/birth journey!

Danae

Bringing a baby earth-side is no small task, and requires you to walk through so many different emotional and physical changes.

Hi, I’m Danae! Doula work found me after my first was born with an amazing doula by my side. I received my certification with Childbirth International (CBI) shortly after, and started supporting others through the wild ride that is pregnancy, birth, and postpartum! Bringing a baby earth-side is no small task, and requires you to walk through so many different emotional and physical changes. This journey can look so extremely different for everyone! This is why I am so passionate about taking the time to get to know you, and what you truly want out of your birth experience. I hold space to process fears, provide resources specific to your needs, and strive to show up for you in moments where you need encouragement the most. I also bring my experience as a photographer to include birth photography as something I offer to my doula clients (as I am able). The birth space is sacred, and the people there matter. I am honored every time I get to step into that space with someone. When I am not doing doula work, you can find me checking out new coffee shops to edit photos, walking my giant Newfoundland (Esau), or spending time with my partner (Max), and my own two little ones (Maverick & Navani).

In addition to my CBI certification, I have also volunteered doula services with Roots Community Birth Center, graduated from my internship with the MN Birth Center in 2023, and I am currently an active member of the Twin Cities Childbirth Collective and of Evidence Based Birth. My knowledge is ever-growing, and I continue to take relevant classes for doula work (including VBAC support and supporting inductions to name a few).

I have been a medical translator for nine years and have helped with many deliveries and births. One day while being an interpreter in the hospital, someone called me a doula and now I can't believe I actually am one! I live in St Paul with my two children and have many friends and family in the area. In my free time, I love to spend time outdoors hiking, biking, or cooking.

Emily L.

As a doula, it is truly rewarding to encourage a woman through this emotional, physical and spiritual process.

Hello! My name is Emily. My desire to be a doula began after serving a close friend in two of her births. I realized how important this position was to the mother and her family. As a doula, it is truly rewarding to encourage a woman through this emotional, physical and spiritual process. Watching a woman turn inward to focus on delivering their child and seeing them gain confidence in themselves, is beautiful.

As a DONA-certified birth doula, my role is to encourage and calm you when you might feel overwhelmed by labor. I am there to remind you that you can birth this little one, your body was made to do it! I get to stay by your side through the entire birth to assist you in whatever way you need.

When I’m not doulaing, I’m homeschooling our four great kids, cooking tasty food, taking trips with my hubby, biking around town, running to soccer games, or hanging out with sweet friends. I look forward to getting to know you and encouraging you on your amazing birth journey!

Emily K.

Every birth is as unique as the people who are involved, and I am honored and humbled every day to be a part of this amazing work.

Hello! My name is Emily Kossila (she/her), and I’m a Commonsense Childbirth, Inc. certified birth doula and birth photographer of nine years attending over 140 births out of Robbinsdale, MN.

I’ve always had a passion for education and justice. The birth of my daughter opened my eyes to the power and incredible transformation of birth on people and families, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to walking alongside those families.

Every birth and experience is as unique as the people involved, and I am so excited to be a part of yours! When I’m not doula-ing, I’m typically at home with my husband Richard, my 10 year-old Aurora, and 7-year-old Thorin. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with minors in Sustainability Studies along with Fisheries and Wildlife.

My current obsessions include playing Dungeons and Dragons with my siblings and harassing my cats Scully, Mulder, and Ripley.

Hodan

Witnessing the beauty of a new life entering the world sparked a deep passion within me for providing unwavering support and advocacy for women in labor.

Hello, I am Hodan. I reside in the vibrant city of Minneapolis, where I have cultivated a deep passion for supporting women during one of the most transformative moments of their lives - childbirth. Fluent in both Somali and English, my journey into the world of childbirth support began with a proud personal experience, where I stood by the side of two dear friends of mine during their childbirth. Witnessing the beauty of a new life entering the world sparked a deep passion within me for providing unwavering support and advocacy for women in labor.

Education and advocacy are the core of my beliefs, and being a doula allows me to combine these seamlessly. I strongly believe that every woman, regardless of their strength, requires a strong system during childbirth. I am dedicated to ensure my clients feel empowered and nurtured every step of the way. Even the strongest of women need a support system and I am honored to be part of that system. Together, we can make the journey into motherhood a deeply meaningful and positive experience.

Kayla

When we are educated, we are empowered.

Hi! I'm Kayla. I'm a certified doula through Commonsense Childbirth. I am also a postpartum doula and childbirth educator. I am an active member of Body Ready Method and Evidence Based Birth. My experience as a doula has extended vastly. I have experience with all birthing experiences and I support all births. I stand behind you 100%. No matter what, I am here for you.

My approach to providing support stands behind my faith in God and my belief in every woman’s capability and strength. No matter the desired way to birth, I believe every pregnancy journey starts with self-education.

That is why, if chosen to work with you, I do my absolute best to give you the tools needed so you feel at ease during your journey through pregnancy, and into postpartum. I strive to provide personalized care, emotional support and be a source of knowledge for any questions you may have. A doula is designed to be there for you through every step of your pregnancy process, not just through birthing.

It is a unique experience to be able to bond with a mother in a way not all healthcare professionals are able to do. This is something I am familiar with since I have a deeply rooted background in healthcare. It is in my blood to be the caring individual that I am. To understand and relate to those I serve. As well as be the voice advocate to those who may need it.I am passionate about encouraging clients to find their inner strength by digging into their desires, fears and anticipations that surround birth. Once acquired I help construct a loose template on how birth may look like for them. Redirection of negativity through the implementation of awareness. Reclaiming your power is essential in order to promote health and wellness. When we know better, we can do better.I am a mother. I have three children, so I incorporate a lot of my lived experiences on pregnancy and birth into how I provide support. Every time I think about helping a mother through a pregnancy the excitement grows within me because I know how much of a privilege it is to be able to do so.

Some of my favorite things are my kids, photography, writing, reading, hiking, foraging, deepening my faith in God and learning constantly, especially these topics: holistic living, pregnancy, and childbirth education.

Lori

I love educating, encouraging, and empowering women and creating an atmosphere where they can have the best birth experience possible

My name is Lori and I am a Certified Doula through DONA International. I am also a Registered Sonographer, encouraging women to have a positive pregnancy and birth experience. My calling to help pregnant women began at a young age when I convinced my parents to let a friend who became pregnant to live with us. When I became a single mom myself, I began housing pregnant women. Before I knew doula work existed, I was a birth partner for a single mom and also had a special support person with me for my own labor and delivery.

When I was asked to take the doula training for one of my jobs, I looked into it and immediately knew this is what I am supposed to be doing. My personal experience of childbirth, with great support present, really changed me. I became a more confident person in every aspect of my life. I love educating, encouraging, and empowering women and creating an atmosphere where they can have the best birth experience possible.

I am married and have one adult son and a little dog named Bandit. I love spending time with my family. I enjoy my perennial garden in the summer and planting flowers in the spring. I also enjoy bird watching in my yard. I enjoy the seasons in MN but plan to retire to Florida when the time comes.

Marcia

As a doula, I support my clients and encourage them where they are, come alongside them, and advocate for them so they may have the most positive birthing experience possible.

I have long been amazed by pregnancy & birth, and the way that women in history have supported one another. I have three children and each experience of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and breastfeeding were completely different from the other, with their own challenges and victories. Now that my babies are teenagers I am able to work as a birth doula. I am certified through DONA International, and speak conversational Spanish.

Women’s bodies are powerful in their ability to birth life. At the same time, I understand that every person approaches birth with their own needs, abilities, stories, and hopes. As a doula, I support my clients and encourage them where they are, come alongside them, and advocate for them so they may have the most positive birthing experience possible.

To offer the most to my clients, I have certifications in movement, stretches and positioning for more comfort in pregnancy and labor. I really believe these tools make a huge difference and value what I learned from Spinning Babies, Gilligan's Guide, BRAVA Core and Pelvic Floor for Birthworkers, and Acupressure for birth.

To recharge, I love to garden, go for a walk, engage with the outdoors, get caught up in a good book, and zone out to TV.

Whether it be your first or fifth child; every woman deserves to be confident, nurtured, informed, and supported through their journey.

Hello! It’s been an honor to be a Doula

Hello/Boozhoo! My name is pronounced O-Ya- Tay! Which is Lakota, meaning the unity of the people or the people. You are getting ready for one of the biggest days of your life, and I am here to support you!.

I have been a Doula for over 12 years now. Initially, I got my training from DONA in Duluth, MN. I have experience with pregnancy and infant loss, special needs moms and babies, teen mothers, single mothers, VBAC, multiples, immigrant families, LGBTQIA+ families and a list of complications associated with pregnancy and postpartum.

Whether it be your first or fifth child; every woman deserves to be confident, nurtured, informed, and supported through their journey. That is my main priority with every one of my clients. Regardless of any background, race, sexuality, status, culture or belief. I approach my clients with individualized care determined by their needs. Educating from not only  evidence-based research, but also life experiences from myself and other mothers. About 3 years ago, I took being a Doula as full-time commitment and I haven’t looked

back since. In the time between, I was blessed with the opportunity to go to school and enter the nursing field. I got work at a variety of different hospitals and settings. My most favorite

places were both Children’s Hospital and Gillette Orthopedic Hospital. Despite how much I loved being there; that is where I realized I wanted to be a doula again. After that, I put myself back into training to re-certify myself as a Doula. My highest goal is becoming a Midwife one day.

Thank you/ Miigwech!

Patricia

As your Doula, I promise to educate, listen, and make note of any concerns or desires you may have.

"Hiiii! I am so grateful you're taking the time to read my profile! My name is Patricia, and I am a COPE certified Perinatal Educator (or Doula) and Lactation Consultant.

As an autistic, God-loving, queer artist, business owner, community organizer, & last but not least: mother of 4 amazing children (2 biological & 2 bonus babies), my clients come from all walks of life, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

My love for childbirth began when I was a "boy crazy" 10 year old. My mother brought me to see my older sister give birth hoping that would cure me. She wasn't prepared for me to say "That was so beautiful. I want to do this for the rest of my life!" In my life, I've had the pleasure of shadowing many OBGYNs, and briefly went to college to become one. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish out my school year. It was a passion I had to put on the back burner. Fast forward to 2021, and I was connected with my own Doula for my son's birth. I soon realized being a Doula was more my speed anyway.

I finally took the steps needed, and I am so happy to be working as a Doula with Everyday Miracles! There was so much knowledge I didn't have going into my first birth. I was misinformed and scared into making decisions I didn't want to go through with. I believe many women of color have this birthing experience, and it's highly important to me to make sure those women are given the correct information; and not anything based in bias or fear.

As your Doula, I promise to educate, listen, and make note of any concerns or desires you may have. I promise to advocate fiercely for you and your baby in any setting. I have lived a very full life and have no room for judgement. I will be your voice when you can't speak, and do my best to ensure you have the pregnancy of your dreams.

I look forward to meeting you and your bun(s) in the oven!"

Every child deserves to be loved and every mother deserves the birth experience she desires!

Every child deserves to be loved and every mother deserves the birth experience she desires! A DONA-trained doula with over 18 years of working youth and families in the non-profit realm, I’m so happy to be part of Everyday Miracles!

I love helping moms realize their strength and ability. I truly believe children are a gift from God and the birthing process is nothing short of a miracle. I believe I am created for this beautiful work.

I have spent almost two decades working to support healthy families. My career has included working as an after-school program director, healthy relationships/sexual health educator, community connector for an elementary school, homeless shelter co-facilitator and leading teen mission trips.

Originally from Cleveland, OH, I moved to Minneapolis in 2014. I enjoy spending time with others, watching TV /movies, eating good food and relaxing on the beach. My favorite things in life revolve around relationships with others!

My passion is to serve people.

I’m bilingual Spanish-English speaking. My passion is to serve people. My gift to be a Doula comes from maternal grandmother, she was a Matrona (Doula).

Sadia

Through my shared experiences, I was able to help guide many of these soon-to-be mothers in their birthing process.

My journey as a doula is to assist in bringing amazing life into this world. Being part of this form of joy and encouraging and supporting a healthy pregnancy is truly a great privilege.

Hello! My name is Sadia, and I am a family educator at an organization and soon to be a doula. I’ve been a certified medical assistant for thirteen years. I am also certified in childhood development and soon to be in nutrition as well. I am a wife and a mother of six beautiful children—three boys and three girls. My journey into becoming a doula all began during my pregnancies, which all came with many complications that could have been avoided with the right medical attention. But what truly inspired me to initially take the steps into becoming a doula was what I had seen while working as a family educator. I had seen many soon-to-be mothers who were also minorities face the same challenges I had faced as a birthing person of color.

Through my shared experiences, I was able to help guide many of these soon-to-be mothers in their birthing process. While doing this, I started to believe that I could help make a difference and help many more expecting parents while advocating for better treatment for pregnant women of color and all in the medical system. I believe that as a doula, I can strive to help meet these goals for all by being there for expecting mothers when they have questions and guiding them through the good and bad during pregnancy.

Shadonna

The body of the birthing person knows exactly what to do and when to do it. You should not feel ashamed or guilty because your birthing process is different, because all births are!

My Name is Shadonna, (pronouns: she, her/hers)

I am grateful for walking into my passion and calling thru my faith in God! As a doula, I have never been to the same birth twice. Meaning I learn something new in every birth that I attend. I believe that every birthing person should feel heard, seen and receive the care that is best for them and their family.

I was officially called into birth work in mid-July of 2019. I have been attending birth since I was about 12 years old. Every time I get called to a birth I get a beautiful rush of excitement. As a doula, I enjoy being able to be a witness the power that birthing people possess, as I encourage them and their support team. I believe that all births are natural births. I also believe that no birthing person should feel pressured in making a decision that is not ethical, cultural or spiritual to their wellbeing or the wellbeing of their family. The body of the birthing person knows exactly what to do and when to do it. You should not feel ashamed or guilty because your birthing process is different, because all births are!

As a woman of color, I would like to see a change in the disparities in the care that women of color and minorities receive. It is my thought that women of color should not still, be dying during pregnancy, birth and postpartum in 2024. Birthing people should feel like their care is centered around them and their family, not that they are just another number or another pregnant person.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time my 5 beautiful children, our dog (Chase Banks) and our cats (Onyx, and Jade Nova). I love reading and growing in every way. I have also found a love for birth photography. I have been told by the mamas that I serve, when they see their birth photos, they get to see birth through a different lens! They gain understanding and clarity while they process their experience.

“It takes a village to raise a child, it takes the same village to keep a sane adult!” -Shadonna

I am dedicated to helping your family find the path to the birth you desire with all of the tools and knowledge I have to share

My road to birth work has been one filled with many detours. I’ve considered training to support families in birth many times and the final catalyst to entering the birth world was birthing my own child. In previous careers I have taught all ages but mostly in preschool classrooms and high school theater classrooms. I am also an improviser locally and bring the skills from improv to each birth I attend. This includes both the ability to adapt in the moment to changes and techniques to manage labor.

I am dedicated to helping your family find the path to the birth you desire with all of the tools and knowledge I have to share. Sometimes this means I am not the right fit and I am happy to refer you to others so you find the right fit. I am a Queer, trans non-binary parent working always to operate from an anti-racist and decolonizing framework. I work with all families, but center those who carry identities not usually centered. I live on Wahpekute, Anishinabewaki, and Očeti Šakówiŋ land in Columbia Heights with my husband, two kids, snake, gecko, and very cuddly dog.

Shamsa

My journey in life is to teach those who cannot teach themselves, and hopefully create a community in which all parents have equal rights to education, health, and the safety that they deserve

Shamsa is not currently taking clients, but we wanted to highlight the amazing work she has done for our organization*

My name is Shamsa . I was born and raised in Mogadishu, Somali. I am happily married with five grown children. Before the Civil War took place in my country in 1991, I was a registered nurse working at Banadir Hospital, where I helped pregnant women deliver babies and also consulted with mothers about any health issues that they had while they were in the hospital. I was also a midwife at a center called Mother Child Health in Mogadishu and my main job was to educate mothers about prenatal care, nutrition, immunizations, and health in infants in order to prevent illness. I  worked at the Mother Child Health Center for five years. I was a scholarship recipient selected to go to Rome, Italy to learn about infant nutrition. I then returned to Somali to continue with my career as a Family Educator. As a Family Educator I was responsible for educating families about nutrition and healthy eating habits.

In 1991 when the Civil War took place I was forced to move out of my country, and became an immigrant in Nairobi, Kenya. I resided in Kenya for about five years before I came to the United States in 1996.

After coming to the United States my goal was to continue with my work as a family educator and in order to help my community the best way that I knew how. My focus was to find occupations that mainly focused on the well being of family and children.  In 1997 I was fortunate enough to find a job at Way to Grow, which focuses on promoting the well being of the family as a whole. I use my knowledge as a registered nurse, midwife, and a family educator to assist families.

I help mothers with children with early childhood education and school readiness so that when their children start school they are ready. I also work as a Doula through Everyday Miracles because of my previous experience as a midwife and registered nurse. I do this type of work because I am very passionate about helping and giving back to the community. I teach mothers about the importance of prenatal care, nutrition, and the process of healthy pregnancies.

My journey in life is to teach those who cannot teach themselves, and hopefully create a community in which all parents have equal rights to education, health, and the safety that they deserve.

I believe that every birthing person should be fully supported, informed, and cared for

Hi I’m Stephanie! I come from a family of doulas and I believe that every birthing person should be fully supported, informed, and cared for. My doula journey started at age 10, watching my mother labor with and birth my little brother. My doula certification comes from the Commonsense Childbirth Institute. I’m also a certified lactation counselor. I consider myself a first generation Minnesotan with Southern roots (Louisiana). When I’m not supporting clients, you can find me spending time with my four sons, ranging in age from 5-24 years old.

Terri

I have a passion for being a mama’s biggest cheerleader, encouraging them to be who they were designed to be.

Hello and Congratulations!

With over 200 births attended, I am a seasoned doula dedicated to providing compassionate support to families during one of life’s most transformative moments. As a DONA-certified professional, I combine extensive training with hands-on experience to empower mama's and their partners.

In addition to my doula certification, I am Hypnobabies® certified, specializing in evidence-based techniques to promote relaxation and confidence during labor. I am also VBAC Link® certified, offering expert guidance for those considering vaginal birth after cesarean. Lastly, my Spinning Babies® training, allows me to help women utilize their bodies positioning to work with their babies during their labor and delivery.

I am passionate about fostering a positive birth experience, educating women to know their options and empowering them to make their own decisions. As a devoted Christian, I integrate my faith into my practice, providing spiritual support and encouragement for those who seek it. I believe that every birth is unique and deserves to be treated with respect, love, and unwavering support.

When I’m not attending births, I enjoy connecting with my community, leading prenatal education workshops, mentoring other doulas, and directing the Doula Intern Program through The Nest at New Birth Midwifery.

Outside of birth work you can find me with my hanging out with my husband of 20 years, homeschooling my 6 children, reading a good book, drinking copious amounts of coffee,  enjoying sweet friendships, watching the Vikings games, or serving at my wonderful church.

As a doula, I am intentional about serving my clients in a way that supports self-empowerment, so they feel they have all the information they feel they need to make the best decision for them and their baby/babies

"Most of us did not learn when we were young that our capacity to be self-loving would be shaped by the work we do and whether that work enhances our well-being." – bell hooks.

This is a quote that has stuck with me as I explore my career path. Becoming a doula is something I did not follow through with until the murder of George Floyd. Seeing the striking images of pregnant Black mothers protesting around the country ignited the fire in me to finally complete my COPE training. But my calling to birth work started on the day I was born.

My mother had a traumatic birthing experience that led to her being hospitalized for 2 months with an infection from an avoidable mistake during my emergency cesarean section. She did not want me away from her while she was hospitalized, so I remained in the NICU while she was admitted. I could not be in the room with her due to her infection, so I became known as the “unit’s baby” with staff carrying me around and coming to see me often. They would take me to my mother’s room when they could and bring me in for short periods of time with all the protection necessary to prevent the spread of infection. When other babies would cry, I would coo to comfort them. My mom loves reminding me my first word was “baby.”

I value empathy, collaboration, and being open minded. As a doula, I am intentional about serving my clients in a way that supports self-empowerment, so they feel they have all the information they feel they need to make the best decision for them and their baby/babies. I do not shy away from vulnerability, and I believe this allows me to have relationships with my clients built on trust.

When I am not engaging in birth work, I am a Registered Dietitian at Hennepin Healthcare (also known as HCMC). Also, I am currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in Public Health with a focus on social epidemiology. That is the study of how people’s health is impacted by their environment, community, as well as governing bodies. My interest is in promoting health as a human right with a focus on Black and Brown communities.

Venedia

My main goal as a doula is to help and be an advocate for the people who may not be sure of their route for their birthing journey.

Hi, I’m Venedia (she/her).

I am an aspiring birthing doula. I’ve always have had a passion in childbirth work as a child and knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. I’ve realized the lack of knowledge that our community has with resources, support, and doulas. My main goal as a doula is to help and be an advocate for the people who may not be sure of their route for their birthing journey. I believe mothers and soon-to-be mothers should have a comfortable, informative, and beautiful pregnancy and I pride myself on providing that for families. Trust, support and uplifting women especially during a vulnerable time, I take satisfaction in providing individualized care for every family. My biggest priority is to leave parents feeling empowered on their journey with their new addition to their family.

I’m born and raised in North Minneapolis and I’m a very involved member of my community and surroundings. I currently attending Minneapolis Community Technical College for my nursing assistant degree and pharmacy technician certificate. I plan to graduate in May 2022. My hobbies are gardening, watching anime, traveling, video-photography, horseback riding, attending healing circles, and fishing. I look forward to meeting you and gaining your trust as your provider on your journey!

Vonyee

As a Doula, Perinatal Educator, and Lactation Educator my goal is to provide you with person-centered perinatal support along with education, information and resources to assist you every step of the way.

Hi! I’m Vonyee (prounounced von-YEE) (YEE like TREE).

I became interested in the Doula practice many years ago. However, due to being busy raising my own babies, I just didn’t have the time to commit to the work. My children have grown up, my nest is almost and Doula work fits perfectly! I’m now able to commit to the role and devote the necessary time to support birthing persons along their journey.

I’ve had a passion for caring for, helping, and serving others for as long as I can remember. As a Doula, Perinatal Educator, and Lactation Educator my goal is to provide you with person-centered perinatal support along with education, information and resources to assist you every step of the way.

With more than 25 years combined experience in healthcare, community health and public health, a vast majority of my experience has included supporting diverse cultures, underserved communities, older adults and people diagnosed with mental health and chronic health conditions.

Aside from being a Doula, I am also a Community Health Worker (CHW). Currently, my role is CHW Field Experience/Apprenticeship Coordinator. My CHW experience also includes CHW program development, Student Mentor, and CHW Trainer. Additionally, as a CHW I’ve worked in a variety of hospitals, clinics, social services and human service organizations. In 2021, I was asked to author the Healthy Lifestyles modules of the MN CHW Certificate Curriculum, which is currently being taught to CHW students in MN and nationwide.

Before becoming a CHW and a Doula, I was a Certified Nursing Assistant, Trained Medication Aide, Medical Receptionist and Hospital Unit Coordinator. In my free time, I enjoy time for self-care, spending time with my close friends and family, and traveling. I look forward to meeting and working with you- supporting you during your journey!

Yaa

I strongly believe that every woman, regardless of her circumstance, needs support especially during childbirth.

I’m Yaa. My doula career began early and unofficially – I was there for my baby sister’s birth, from the time my mom’s water broke till she was born eight hours later. My mother jokingly told people that I was her doula …  I guess I really was!

That experience was only the beginning. It sparked a passion for birth and supporting women that continues today. I strongly believe that every woman, regardless of her circumstance, needs support especially during childbirth. This belief guides the work I do at Everyday Miracles.

A Certified Doula through DONA, I did my doula training with Liz Abbene as part of the Doula Access Project. I have also worked as a breastfeeding counselor for the Hennepin County WIC program since 2009.

A wife and mother of four energetic sons, I have also worked as an elementary school teacher and a radio presenter. As a busy working mom, I enjoy the simple pleasures of life, including 45 minutes of time to myself!
